Sutra 4.21

चित्तांतर दृश्ये बुद्धिबुद्धेः अतिप्रसंगः स्मृतिसंकरश्च।

Sutra 4.21
Cittāntaradṛśhye buddhi-buddher-atiprasaṅgaḥ smṛti-saṁkaraśh-ca

citta : (of) mind-field
antara : another
dṛśhye : in being the object of perception
buddhi-buddeḥ : of another discriminatory instrument of discriminatory
instrument, of buddhi of buddhi
ati-prasaṅgaḥ : fallacious stretch (fallacy of ad infinitum)
smṛti : of memory
saṁkaraḥ : confusion, meddling
ca : and

Sutra Meaning : 
 (If it were suggested) that (the mind-field) is the object of perception of another mind-field then (the argument will suffer) a fallacious stretch (ad infinitum) so as (there will be have to be) another buddhi for buddhi (and for that buddhi, another, and so on). Also (there will be) confusion of memories (as to which memory is of which buddhi!).

सूत्र ४.२१
चित्तान्तरदृश्ये बुद्धिबुद्धेरतिप्रसङ्गः स्मृतिसंकरश्च॥२१॥

पदच्छेद एवं शब्दार्थ
चित्त + अन्तर + दृश्ये : पूर्व चित्त को उत्तर चित्त का दृश्य मान लेने पर
बुद्धिबुद्धेः : (पुनः) उस चित्त को उससे पूर्व के चित्त का दृश्य जानने से
अति प्रसङ्गः : अनवस्था दोष की प्राप्ति होगी
स्मृति + संकरः : स्मृतियों का भी परस्पर सम्मिश्रण हो जायगा
: और॥

सूत्रार्थ –
पूर्व चित्त को उत्तर चित्त का दृश्य मान लेने पर, (और पुनः) उस चित्त को उससे पूर्व के चित्त का दृश्य जानने से, अनवस्था दोष की प्राप्ति होगी और स्मृतियों का भी परस्पर सम्मिश्रण हो जायगा।

Sutra Meaning :
(Se è stato suggerito) che (il campo mentale) è l’oggetto della percezione di un altro campo mentale allora (l’argomento soffrirà) un tratto fallace (ad infinitum) così come (ci sarà in divenire) un altro Buddhi per ogni Buddhi (e per quel Buddhi, un altro, e così via). Anche (ci sarà) confusione di ricordi (su quale memoria sia riferibile a quale Buddhi!).
